Furre

Page history last edited by Jerome Star 5 mos ago

A furre is a species of sentient creatures (like humans) that look like humanoid-shaped animals. They come in different sub-species. Their internal biology resembles most Humans, but they have beyond-average reflexes, strength, vision, or hearing, depending on their sub-species. All furres are generally as intelligent as Humans, but many find it hard to understand new technology and human terminology. Furres that are raised outside of Human-inhabited areas tend to have their own terminologies and ways of spelling that make it hard for them to assimilate general information. Their DNA is close to Humans', but they are unable to successfully reproduce with Humans. The same can be said between them and Ferals (non-sentient animals), as their DNA is still too far apart. This makes the furres an oddity, as though they are not actually related to Humans or Ferals.

Furres were the original inhabitants of the world. Only after the Flood did any Humans appear. The furres had survived by building a civilization in a huge system of caverns during the Flood, until they were able to leave their caves and make a life for themselves on a small island on the surface. Some managed to survive under what is now Karaga, and were the ancient civilization of a continent called Drakoria. They were very aggressive, and fought the Humans with their magic; however, they lost and most of their civilization was destroyed in the process. After the furres on the other side of the world broke down into civil war, those wishing to continue their studies into technology sailed across the newly formed ocean. Their first meeting with Humans was less than friendly, as the furres had felt they had dominance over the planet. Many furres then went to war with the Humans, with only a third of them deciding to help the Humans. The Humans won out in the end, thanks to the Furres that assisted them, and the hostile furres (called the 'Furrabians' in modern days) were pushed back into a desert part of the continent in the northeast.

Since then, the Furres have been a dying species since many of them were taken into slavery long ago, shortly after the Furrabians had been forced back into a land with a 'mediterranean-like' climate. They have been less and less willing to have children, the majority of them, and many that did decide to have children had miscarriages. The Nod Empire made it impossible for scientists to study the phenomenon, and instead, scientists were ordered to work on cybernetic projects. This leaves the Furre's situation a mystery. By 2091, scientists of the newly reformed Vinca Union begin searching for a cure, amidst a war in which the Furrabians began with their insurgency against the Union's presence in Furrabia. The KGB of Dahkur is rumored among some to be preparing a deadly virus that can only affect furres. Investigation by the Union is just beginning by Furcadian Intelligence, and the FSA is standing by to sabotauge them if they are.

The feline sub-species normally has two of three natural abilities: they can have quicker reflexes, better hearing, and/or natural nightvision. Felines usually are thin or fit, and never very muscular, as the maximum size of their muscles is smaller than a humans'. Despite this, felines have an advantage in speed, and oftentimes in balance. Their tails and whiskers act as a balance like it does on Feral felines, and their ears are similar in structure, set slightly higher than a human's ear. They are more likely to assimilate a lot of information at once than other Furre sub-species. felines despise water, especially cold water. Felines are the most sensitive to even the slightest of weather changes.

The canine sub-species have two of three natural abilities: they can have better muscle strength, greater stamina, and/or have better smelling than most Humans and other Furres. They will oftentimes be strong, even if it's not immediately apparent by their muscle size. They have average reflexes that they can expand upon individually. Despite this, they are not very graceful and can often lose balance in fierce battle situations if they aren't careful. Some have stamina greater than rodents, able to withstand great stresses and stay awake for longer periods of time, though they must rest longer than other species. Canines have bad eyesight, as they can only see in black and white, and are oftentimes nearsighted. While this can be corrected by a pair of glasses, most canines choose to depend on their noses and ears to be their oft used senses.

The rodent sub-species have two of three natural abilities: extremely quick speed, fast reflexes, and/or natural sensory abilities. Their natural sensor abilities are caused by their ability to feel vibrations in the ground and even the air around them. They can often react quickly, like a feline, and they have the same muscular limitations as felines. However, they tend to be very energetic at any age, and thus do not have to sleep as long as other species. The rodents are known often for their quick wits and ability to think on their feet. Rodents are less likely to follow any instincts, as they can have more self-control than other species. Despite this, they are oftentimes unfairly stereotyped as mischevious and immature.

The squirrel sub-species have two of three natural abilities: better adaptability to new information, faster speed, and better hearing. They are an offshoot from the rodent family, and thus have similar facial and lower structures as the rodent. However, they are distinguished by average stamina and the inability to use the rodent's natural sensory abilities. Despite this, the squirrels are able to match the speed of a canine despite their oftentimes smaller size, and they can hear as accurately as many felines can. They have a naturally light step that makes them silent as they walk or run. They are one of the most intelligent sub-species of the Furres, able to adapt new concepts and understand Human terminology. Oftentimes, the squirrels are the only Furre species that will speak and spell like a Human.

The lapine sub-species consists of two more species that each have different natural abilities. The actual rabbit species have better hearing and better balance while being unable to smell many scents, while the hare species has better speed, reflexes, and hearing while lacking balance. Both species are usually extremely cautious, but they oftentimes forget to think an action through. This makes their dual species stereotyped as quite outspoken. Most rabbits escaped to the Acropolis Sovereignty in the early years of the Furrabian War in order to escape the slavery many Furres were being put into by the Furrabians. They often have a strong natural sense of justice and connection with their species that most other Furres don't have. Family is almost always the most important thing to a lapine Furre.

The equine sub-species have two of four natural abilities: Greater strength, greater speed, greater intelligence, and greater stamina. Equines are one of the more rare species of Furre, as most were Magis in the Olde World after the Flood. They have strong skin and hides that allow them to handle much pain without flinching. This natural defense, however, makes them less likely to detect certain things that other species would (in other words, they don't have any natural sensory abilities, and less than average 'touch' senses). Oftentimes, equines are abnormally tall compared to most Humans and other Furres. Equines are oftentimes able to control their tempers better than other species. They can sleep for short periods of time, though they must do so often, taking naps that can last from fifteen minutes to an hour. They aren't very agile or graceful, and are more likely to lose their balance when trying to make quick moves (such as dodges and quick turns).

The fox sub-species is possibly the most varied group of Furre species. They normally have one specific ability of any sort, and two of the following natural abilities: greater intelligence, greater relfexes, greater stamina, and greater hearing. The only abilities they cannot learn or be born with are: natural sensory abilities, natural defense, greater muscle strength, and natural nightvision. Their DNA is far less structured like animal DNA, and is slightly closer to Human DNA, though the differences are still great. Foxes often are cunning, utilizing their great intelligence on-the-fly like squirrels and equines. Almost all foxes have the speed of a hare or equine, and some will have hearing and reflexes that rival even the felines. Like the felines, they are unable to grow out their muscles to a certain size and strength, but they make up for it in catlike grace and speed often. They share their natural smelling abilities with canines, and their stamina is just as great. Foxes are more able to adapt to their environment better than other species. They sleep long hours, however, and are required to eat more than three meals a day to keep up their stamina. They are the least likely species to gain a lot of weight, as they have fast metabolisms.

The raccoon sub-species often have three natural abilities: natural sensory abilities, greater intelligence, and greater stamina. They are stereotyped as mischevious, much like the rodents which they are related to, however not all raccoons are truly mischevious. They are quiet in their steps, much like their rodent brothers, and their fur is usually dark, giving them natural camoflauge in the night. They are quite clever in most situations, and have great stamina that requires them to feed more often than other species. Most are nocturnal, though this is not true of all raccoons. They are sometimes referred to as being one of the most graceful species in their movements, as their tales and bodies seem to swish in mesmerizing patterns. Despite this, they are not quite as agile as some, and their balance has been considered average at best. They have highly sensitive nerves, allowing them to identify objects by their touch much more accurately than Humans. They have specialized senses of smell and hearing. They are naturally short-sighted and partially color blind, only able to see shades of green, purple, and red.
