Katherine's mother Franie had killed herself because she was afraid that Star would no longer love her the same as he did before. That was when Star had temporarily adopted a young girl named Trystan, who would later end up back in the orphanage because Star was unable to keep care of her. 7-month-old Katherine found herself in an orphanage, and during the war was relocated to several different locations until she finally landed in a Nod orphanage at the age of 13 in 2084.

 She was actually a sought after prize by several mercenaries that had fought Star in the past, but Nod agents protected her. But they were unable to protect her from time travellers who were meddling in time... She was taken eleven years into the past, but she escaped her kidnappers after a short and violent fight.

 After that, Katherine has been living on her own for several years, but was recruited in the Nod Army during the war by General Warren, who believed she had talent that could be best brought out in the battlefield. Katherine had a different fate however, as she was recruited at age 23 into the secret group of Ghost agents, where she remains to this day. She's never forgotten her mother's death and blames her father for it every day...

 Since then, she was present on the station during Gyro's takeover (the entire mutiny as many of the Nod officers turned against their comrades). She managed to escape, only to be stopped by Gyro for a moment of time in which Gyro told her to give her father a message. He handed her a bloodied knife, stained with his own blood, and told her to tell him that he was back. Katherine abliged when she found her father on the surface with Franie, but she was not too happy to see him again, after blaming her father for everything that had happened... But seeing her mother alive helped to aleviate some of that pent-up anger.

 Since then, she has met and befriended someone named Tahir. The two are very close, though it is not known when or under what circumstances they met.
