The Wyrmmes are an ancient race that had survived the Great Flood in 6000 B.C. They were all but forgotten, relegated to furre legends. The Wyrmmes moved to the arctic north in order to escape the flood. But due to the low temperatures there, they were forced underground. They built a network of cities that would make even Argyre look like a small park. Most of their underground cities can reach up to 4,000 square miles diamater. Cities are often built in hexagonal shapes, although the central Wyrmme city - 6,400 square miles - was cited as being perfectly circular. Part of the legend in which the furres escaped from their home island to find Karaga was one fleet's obstacle being the Wyrmmes. They were cited as being very aggressive, and rarely ever honorable.
A feud with the Wyrmmes started in 2089 over the New Lands that had appeared. This is the first known contact between humans and wyrmmes. True first contact was made when an explorer was nearly killed during his exploration of the arctic north. Others cite the mysterious loss of the Nod outer haven during Gyro's takeover as being human's first contact with the reptilian creatures. The Gyro Corporation - at one time - had performed genetic experiments on the Wyrmmes. But instead of attempting to make them a better race, the Gyro Corp used them to reverse the process of 'evolution' to a point in the Wyrmme's early history. They kept most of their experiments on the same island that they kept a number of secret experiments on. The Vinca Union - nor anybody else - have insofar discovered of the Gyro Corporation's involvement in Wyrmme history. As a species, it is noted that there are many differences between the olden Wyrmme and the modern Wyrmme. While underground, the wyrmmes began to take on different characteristics; due to their lack of contact with other species, they began to lose their purported psionic abilities. Their eyes became more sensitive to light, requiring them to wear helmets or visors in the sun. No longer with wind-sensitive 'fins' along their heads, they now have rough, bumpy skin. Their mouth is no longer as sharply pointed outward as they once were.
Animosity between the Wyrmmes and humans began long before Gyro Clypse used them. Where the animosity comes from, nobody could know. Some suspect that the wyrmmes only want land, but since they're territorial creatures, they cannot live peacefully with other species. Even males fight for mating rights, and property is relegated to only the strongest in society. Their tribalistic government is headed by a Kinsha, or King. They have no consitution, nor any basic civil rights. Still, Wyrmmes vie for control, and the Kinsha in power can constantly be shifted to others that appear as the strongest warrior. Their military forces wear full-body leather covering with full insulation to protect them from the cold. They can also often be seen wearing helmets. Most soldiers carry a certain rifle that shoulders two long jaw-like blades, sharpened on the side facing away from the barrel. The barrel itself is a conglomeration of three, as one would see at the business end of the weapon. The guns fire high-charged bolts of electricity, often killing the victims immediately after hitting. However, the gun must be allowed to charge, and - when that happens - one would hear a high pitched squeeling noise from the weapon. They are heavy, requiring strong wyrmmes to wield them. They are activated with a pull-ring trigger that can be pulled out almost two inches; the further the pull-ring is pulled, the stronger the electrical bolt.
(Only humans and furres of strength level 2 can wield the wyrmme's thunderbolt rifle at any time; furrens can carry the weapons on their backs at strength level 1, but to use them, they must be of strength level 2; Wyrmme side-arms still require at least strength level 1 to all character types)
